about the artist
Tammie Justina is primarily a self-taught artist, born and raised in Chilliwack, B.C., and currently based in Mission, B.C. She has dedicated years to nurturing and strengthening her skills within the creative fields of study in abstract, surrealism, collage, assemblage and her beloved handmade primitive art dolls that carry over her distinctive style of distressed aesthetic and storytelling to bring these charming old-world and often uncanny figures to life. As Tammie's practice continues to grow, she is an artist who's not afraid to challenge the boundaries.
"My art begins with emotions, usually the uncomfortably honest ones. Whether I'm working in figurative abstraction, dollmaking, collage, or playing with experimental processes for assemblage pieces, my approach remains the same. To uncover unexpected beauty, to accept our flaws, and to awaken curiosity. Through my body of work, I am offering an invitation to sit with my art, allowing the nuances of the pieces to unfold slowly, acting as a kind of open-ended narrative where you may discover your own emotional landscape and revelations within the work."

Frames & Art Care
ABOUT FRAMES : When it's time to frame completed work, vintage and distressed frames are often used that are discovered while visiting antique shops and local markets. The interplay between the frame and the painting offers a continuous narrative, not only to explore the art but also to see the story embedded in the frame. Each scratch, wear, and imperfection in a vintage frame tells its own tale. This thoughtful combination elevates the overall aesthetic, allowing for a harmonious blend that captivates and inspires an old-world charm that transports viewers to another time.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR ART : It's exciting to bring home your new artwork and find it's forever place on the wall, however, to prevent canvas warp and color fade, it's strongly recommended to avoid hanging your artwork in an area where there are constant fluctuations of temperature change, humidity, and direct sunlight. Living Rooms, Hallways and Bedrooms are great choices. Damaging environments would be areas such as, Bathrooms, Laundry Rooms, Kitchens and damp Basements. Although all paintings are varnished for protection, it helps to avoid these certain environments so your art remains healthy for years to come. Periodic dusting is required with a very soft, large cosmetic brush. Never vacuum the artwork, nor use paper towel, or wet cloth to dust.
